Serging
The method used by area rug manufacturers. A whipped stitch that forms a continuous wrap of matching yarn around the edge of the rug. The finished width of serging is approximately 3/8″.
Binding
The easiest and least expensive method of finishing a carpet edge. Created by folding a small piece of binding tape over the edge of the carpet, then sewing it to the carpet with an industrial sewing machine. The finished width of binding is approximately 1/4″ to 3/8″, depending on the density of the carpet.
